30 June 2009 Royalties for Region - Successful projects Round 1 2009
Regional Development Minister, Hon Brendon Grylls MLA today announced 23 projects are to be funded by the Goldfields-Esperance Regional Grant Scheme.
The inaugural round of the Goldfields-Esperance Regional Grant Scheme was well subscribed with 81 applications received.
Minister Grylls said “it is very pleasing to see a positive response to the first round of the Royalties for Regions with funding applications from a broad range of community, government and business groups. The successful projects are in line with the Royalty for Regions objectives:
• Increasing capacity for local strategic planning and decision-making
• Retain and build the benefits of regional communities
• Promote relevant and accessible local services
• Assist communities to plan for the sustainable economic and social future
• Enable communities to expand social and economic opportunities, and
• Assist regional communities to prosper through increased employment opportunities, business and industry developments, and improved local services”.

26 May 2009 Kalgoorlie-Boulder to host SEGRA 2009 "Exploring New Frontiers"
In a first for Western Australia, the 13th Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) conference, SEGRA 2009 “Exploring New Frontiers”, will be held in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia, on 27-29 October 2009 and is expected to attract up to 300 participants.
“SEGRA is the only national forum for regional development professionals, policy-makers and academics to get together, share experiences and ideas, and to send a message to governments that regions can’t be ignored.” Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor Ron Yurjevich said.
The Goldfields Esperance Development Commission and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder worked closely to win the bid to host the conference and the GEDC is now encouraging regional stakeholders to register.
