The Minister for Regional Development; Agriculture and Food; Hydrogen Industry, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC, and GEDC CEO Kris Starcevich recently travelled to Eucla to talk to Traditional Owners, the Mirning people, and representatives from InterContinental Energy, about the Western Green Energy Project.

InterContinental Energy is seeking to develop the Western Green Energy Hub, a district-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project located across the Shire of Dundas and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The Hub is projected to generate up to 50 gigawatts of hybrid wind and solar power, which will be used to produce up to 3.5 million tonnes of hydrogen or 20 million tonnes of green ammonia each year.

The Eucla visit was a great opportunity to hear from the traditional custodians about some of the opportunities and challenges with the proposal, which could scale up to become one of the world’s largest renewable energy projects.
