WA Housing Minister, John Carey, visited Kalgoorlie-Boulder on 2 March 2023 to attend the Housing and Land Roundtable Forum hosted by Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event saw 42 representatives from a diverse range of industry and community come together to discuss key issues surrounding housing and land availability in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Key topics included the current impact on local businesses, long and short-term workforce attraction and retention, and various infrastructure constraints.
Key findings from the recently published KBCCI Housing and Land Position Paper, along with future solution pathways, were presented to the Minister for consideration, with input from attendees representing different sectors such as government, industry, health, education and retail.
GEDC partnered with KBCCI, CKB and RDAGE, with support from BHP to develop the Housing and Land Position Paper in December 2022, to better understand current housing market trends, the impacts of lack of housing, the barriers to development and explores strategies to alleviate accommodation shortages in the region.
