GEDC recently assisted in organising tours of regional construction projects for the Construction Training Fund (CTF) Board visit to Kalgoorlie-Boulder on 25 & 26 August.
The tours were a great opportunity for CTF Board members to have a preview of the new Central Regional TAFE Kalgoorlie Trades Workshop and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's Kal City Centre projects.
During the visits, the CTF Board heard directly from contractors and subcontractors about some of the challenges in attracting and retaining a skilled workforce in the region.
The CTF is a Statutory Authority for the construction workforce. It helps ensure Western Australia’s building and construction industry can meet the demand for skilled workers and create a safe, sustainable future for all who work in the industry.
For employers, CTF offers grants to offset the cost of hiring an apprentice, providing confidence to invest in a future construction workforce.
The CTF also provides construction workers with support through grants and incentives, such as the $500 Apprentice Tool Allowance.
The CTF also works with industry peak bodies, state and local government, schools, teachers, students, parents and individuals in the community to encourage people to consider a fulfilling and rewarding career in the building industry.
