The Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) in collaboration with the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission (GEDC) has recently established the Esperance Job Connect Program. The program, launched this month, is designed to assist local businesses to meet their workforce needs by connecting them to local job seekers.
An Esperance Workforce Needs Survey was undertaken by the ECCI with support from GEDC in 2021. The findings of the survey indicated a willingness among businesses to take on a trainee or apprentice to address workforce attraction and retention issues.
The ECCI will facilitate the placement of local interested candidates into positions that require permanent employment, upskilling, long-term occupation skills training, or a registered apprenticeship or traineeship. By connecting businesses seeking to fill semi-skilled and skilled positions with current residents who are looking for new career opportunities, local workforce needs are met, and residents are afforded the opportunity to gain local employment in the region. This program is particularly pertinent for school leavers and younger workers.
“This program administered by the ECCI, with support from the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission, will bring together employers with prospective employees and a range of existing and new government and non-government support programs, to help build our future workforce”, said GEDC CEO, Kris Starcevich. “We are delighted to be working with the Chamber on this program which provides a local approach to bolstering the Esperance regional workforce, complementing the range of state government offerings currently available to support employers and prospective employees seeking work opportunities and new staff.”
The ECCI will offer advisory support to participating businesses, including information on government support and incentives available, especially to businesses without prior experience in employing new trainees or apprentices. The Esperance Job Connect program will be delivered on a trial basis to assess local interest.
