Kalgoorlie Rail Realignment Project

Kalgoorlie Rail Realignment Project

The GEDC is leading a new Kalgoorlie rail realignment project that commenced in April this year, with funding provided by the Australian and State governments.

The project explores feasibility for changes to rail and freight intermodal infrastructure, in and around Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Goldfields and a business case for preferred solutions.Several rail realignment and intermodal facility concepts have been examined in previous studies.

Over recent years, the opening of new industrial areas, significant industry growth, emerging sectors such as critical minerals, and supply chain and decarbonisation matters, have driven change to the freight task across the region. This project will investigate previous concepts as well emerging options to develop a preferred solution.

GEDC hosted members of the Kalgoorlie rail realignment project steering group in Kalgoorlie in November for meetings with industry and local stakeholders and site visits for the project. Contact GEDC for more information about the Kalgoorlie Rail Realignment Project.
