Lord Forrest Olympic Pool Redevelopment

Lord Forrest Olympic Pool Redevelopment

The historic Lord Forrest Olympic Pool Redevelopment Project was officially launched in Kalgoorlie yesterday, with an open event for the whole community. GEDC’s Chief Executive Officer, Shayne Flanagan and Senior Project Officer, Michele Campbell, attended the event to support the launch. This redevelopment received some funding from the Goldfields-Esperance Regional Grants Scheme (GER), administered by the GEDC, as a well-defined and planned project with clear benefits to the community.

The Project creates a new, open community space in the centre of the CBD that engages youth utilising the Kingsbury Skate park and is an integral part of the City’s education precinct. The heritage of the original pool has been retained with the entrance building being restored to its original art deco style, while the former change rooms have become shade shelters for the amphitheatre. The Lord Forrest Olympic pool was opened in 1938 as the second such swimming pool in Australia, closing in 1999 and replaced by the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre.
