Regional Planning Strategy workshop

Regional Planning Strategy workshop

The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) hosted an engaging regional planning workshop in Kalgoorlie-Boulder in late March. The event was an important opportunity for 40 regional and visiting stakeholders to contribute to the development of a new regional land-use planning strategy for the Goldfields-Esperance region.

Kris Starcevich, GEDC CEO helped set the scene for the workshop, organised by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH), by providing an overview of the region, key economic data and regional challenges and opportunities.

DPLH will be preparing regional planning strategies for all regions across Western Australia over the next 18 months, informed by targeted stakeholder consultation. The draft version of the Goldfields-Esperance regional planning strategy will be advertised for public comment once prepared.

This is an important document to help guide vital land use planning and development during a critical time for our region, currently experiecning high levels of economic activity, demand for industrial and residential land and emerging industries such as critical minerals and renewable energy.

Stakeholders can contact the Regional Strategies Team at DPLH at regionalstrategies@dplh.wa.gov.au for more information.
