The Minister for Goldfields-Esperance, Hon David Michael MLA, visited Kalgoorlie-Boulder yesterday where he met with Kai Rho Contracting for the unveiling of their new dual cab grader. The business received a $235,000 REDs Grant to help purchase the dual cab grader which will play a key role in providing hands-on training to meet the growing demand for skilled operators in the region. The specialised grader will be used across most of the company’s civil projects, offering valuable training opportunities for local operators and those seeking certifications in both final trim and grader tickets.
While in the Goldfields, the Minister travelled to Kambalda to visit Gold Fields’ St Ives to find out about their current operations and future plans in the region, including their renewable energy project incorporating 66,000 solar panels spanning 2.5 km2. Once operational, the renewable energy system (solar and wind combined) will power more than 70% of Gold Fields’ St Ives mine, becoming Western Australia’s largest renewable energy initiative at an existing mine site.
Thanks to Gold Fields’ St Ives for hosting the visit.
