Dirt Music hits the cinema

Audiences across Australia and the world are discovering the Goldfields-Esperance region’s spectacular coastline with the release of the film Dirt Music.

Based on the 2001 Tim Winton novel and directed by Gregor Jordan, Dirt Music was filmed in Esperance and showcases the region’s natural beauty.

Dirt Music was supported through the Royalties for Regions Western Australian Regional Film Fund, with production funding from Screenwest and Lotterywest. The GEDC played a supportive role during filming in Esperance, working with the production team to maximise local benefits.

Around 90 Esperance residents were treated to a special advance screening of Dirt Music last month aimed at celebrating the town’s involvement in the production.

Coordinated by the GEDC and Universal Pictures Australia, and supported by Screenwest, the screening was held at the Esperance’s Fenwick Cinema. Attendees included local film extras, area scouts, talent coordinators, venue providers and local government councillors. The event was emceed by Screenwest Head of Screen Investment and Strategic Projects Matthew Horrocks.

Dirt Music Executive Producer Kate Separovich was also in attendance, providing a presentation and thanking the local community for supporting the production. Kate was instrumental in selecting Esperance as one of the film’s feature locations.

Dirt Music is presently screening in cinemas across the country (official trailer here). Australia’s Golden Outback has launched a special ‘Road to Esperance’ campaign to coincide with the film’s release. Visit the site here.
