GEDC in Ravensthorpe to discuss Drought Resilience

GEDC in Ravensthorpe to discuss Drought Resilience

In early April the GEDC team met with key stakeholders in Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun to discuss an upcoming project to deliver a Regional Drought Resilience Plan (RDRP) for the Goldfields-Esperance region.

This plan will understand key drought and water security threats impacting local communities across the region and will identify practical actions to help communities prepare for future climate risks. Identifying critical water assets and determining priority actions to achieve regional water security will be a key focus of the RDRP program.

Discussions with the Ravensthorpe Agricultural Initiative Network (RAIN), Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun Community Resource Centres and the Shire Council were positive and confirmed the need for a regionally coordinated approach to addressing drought risks and water security.

Over the coming months a wide range of stakeholders from across the Goldfields-Esperance region will have the opportunity to help shape the plan and GEDC will work closely with Local Government to ensure that local communities needs and priorities are captured.
