The Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC, Minister for Regional Development; Agriculture and Food; Hydrogen Industry, has announced that she will stand down next month and bring her parliamentary career to an end.
Ms MacTiernan retires as the longest serving female Minister in WA's history, spending a total of 13 years in State Cabinet.
First entering State Parliament in 1993, Ms MacTiernan held a range of Cabinet and shadow portfolios.
She returned to State Parliament in 2017 and was appointed to the Regional Development, and Agriculture and Food portfolios.
In 2021, Ms MacTiernan was appointed the State's first Hydrogen Industry Minister, and also held the Ports portfolio between 2018 and 2021.
As Regional Development Minister, Ms MacTiernan established the $45.8 million Regional Economic Development (RED) grants program and helped drive initiatives across the State.
GEDC chief executive officer Kris Starcevich paid tribute to the outgoing Minister, noting that Ms MacTiernan had shown a keen interest in the Goldfields-Esperance region and visited regularly.
Mr Starcevich acknowledged Ms MacTiernan’s leadership, direction, and mentorship since he commenced in the CEO role in 2018 and wished her the best for her future.
He also said the GEDC looked forward to working with her successor in the WA Regional Development portfolio, in the near future.
