The public comment period for the draft Goldfields-Esperance Regional Drought Resilience Plan is now open. The GEDC invites individuals and organisations to provide feedback on the draft Plan by 4:00 PM AWST, Tuesday 15 July 2025.
Developed in collaboration with local governments and regional stakeholders, the Plan sets a foundation to identify, inform and guide actions aimed at achieving water security and drought resilience across the region. The approach is coordinated and inclusive, reflecting input from a broad cross-section of the region—from the southern coastal communities of Esperance and Ravensthorpe, to Wiluna in the north, remote communities such as those within the Ngaanyatjarra Lands and everywhere in between.
The draft Plan is underpinned by a robust evidence base, including insights gathered from more than 170 individuals and 60 organisations, as well as findings from a Drought Vulnerability Assessment. The Assessment reviews both historical and projected drought impacts, along with an analysis of regional water resources. These contributions ensure the Plan captures the real, lived experiences of residents and proposes practical, community-driven actions to strengthen regional resilience.
Community members and organisations are encouraged to review the draft and share their feedback. Submissions can be made via the GEDC website or by emailing climatefutures@gedc.wa.gov.au.
Submissions close: 4:00 PM AWST, Tuesday 15 July 2025.
The Regional Drought Resilience Program is funded jointly through the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and DPIRD. The Future Drought Fund provides a source of funding to assist regional communities to become more prepared for and resilient to the impacts of drought.
