Regional Price Index 2021

Regional Price Index 2021

The Regional Price Index (RPI) is generated by the Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development (DPIRD) on a biennial basis.

First produced in 1998, it was commissioned to assist with calculating regional district allowances for Western Australia but also assists with policy decision-making.

The RPI process involves the collection of a wide range of prices for over 220 goods and services that contribute to the cost of living in the regions – everything from haircuts to bread, fuel and rent.

Information for the RPI is gathered from 37 regional locations including Leonora, Kalgoorlie, Norseman and Esperance.

The 2021 RPI shows that overall prices across WA are highest in the Pilbara, followed by the Kimberley and Goldfields-Esperance regions.
