Minister Punch has recently launched the new Western Australian Regional Development Framework, documenting his vision for sustainable and liveable regional communities supported by diverse economies. WA’s nine regions differ in population size, demographic make-up, service availability, industry focus, geography and natural resources. This diversity can create regional competitive and comparative advantages, but also brings about unique challenges for each region.
The framework sets out the five areas of focus for the WA Regional Development Commissions, focused on regional need and aligned with Government priorities, these include:
- Regional Liveability,
- Economic Development, Diversification, and Innovation,
- Climate Resilience and Low Carbon Transition,
- Aboriginal Empowerment and Prosperity, and
- Organisational Excellence.
The GEDC’s Strategic Plan is well aligned with these five areas of focus. You can view the WA Regional Development Framework here.
