With a prolonged Western Australian skills shortage, programs to enable Goldfields-Esperance residents to participate in the workforce are a priority and access to childcare is a critical part of workforce mobility.

There is a high level of demand for childcare in the Goldfields-Esperance region with many providers holding substantial waiting lists in one or more age groupings.

The State Government has established a grant program to assist with retaining early childhood education and care workers in regional Western Australia.

Grants up to $25,000 are available to regional local government authorities involved in the provision of childcare to their communities.

Funding is targeted at initiatives and packages to attract and retain employees, such as subsidised housing, relocation, training and professional development.

For more information on the Regional Childcare Workers grant program, contact Vicki Kelly at vicki.kelly@communities.wa.gov.au or 0435 046 212 or view the grant information here.

Applications close on 8 March 2022.
