Kalgoorlie-Boulder based business Goldfields Machining is one of five projects to receive funding through round four of the Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants announced recently.

The business will receive $75,000 towards a Hydraulic Cylinder Repair Bench, enabling on-site diagnostic and repair services on large scale cylinders.

The bench increases local capacity to service the mining sector, with the analysis and repair of cylinders previously only available in Perth.

Goldfields Machining business directors Luke Craker, Brett Martin and Carl Melder established the business in 2008, which has gone from strength to strength.

This project will allow the team to further expand by employing additional staff who will receive specialist training in large cylinder pressure testing, digital reporting and laser stroke measurements.

Mr Melder said they were very happy to be selected as a recipient of a Regional Economic Development Grant.

"With the assistance of the State Government, we are excited to bring new services, employment opportunities and cutting- edge technology to regional Western Australia," he said.

"Goldfields Machining has always been at the forefront of technology within our manufacturing workshop, and now we are implementing new technology into our hydraulic cylinder department."

Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission (GEDC) Chairperson Sabina Shugg said the project not only supported local business growth, but also increased capacity to service the mining sector locally.

"Having access to hydraulic cylinder repair services in Kalgoorlie-Boulder will deliver greater efficiencies across the industry," she said.

"Goldfields Machining clients will now be able to minimise downtime associated with diagnostic and repair services, while increasing overall productivity."

The RED Grants program is a State Government initiative investing $40.8 million over seven years in locally driven projects to stimulate economic diversity across Western Australia.

In the Goldfields-Esperance region, this round of RED Grants supports five projects sharing in $785,000 of State Government funding.

The broad range of projects aim to enhance the region’s productivity, grow partnerships, build capacity and drive sustainable job outcomes.
