Australian Potash Limited (APL) recently welcomed trainees to its Laverton Training Centre (LTC) for the first time, after being announced as one of five recipients of round four of the Regional Economic Development (RED) grants funding.

APL received $200,000 in funding to establish the Centre, which provides vocational training programs, employment support and pathways for local Aboriginal people in the northern Goldfields.

LTC students will be connected to employment opportunities through the local Ranger program, mining industry and civil construction projects.

The Centre integrates training into the cultural lives of local Aboriginal people and includes access to a nearby camp, showers, toilets, and a kitchenette where trainees can relax and refresh during their training days.

The Centre is modelled on the Martu-ku Yiwarra Training Centre in Wiluna, a four-year remote vocational program funded by local employers and overseen by Martu elders.
