Bringing Automation and Cutting-edge Manufacturing to the Goldfields

MAS Equipment Pty Ltd has secured a $85,000 Regional Economic Development (RED) grant, as announced by the Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Don Punch, in Kalgoorlie. The funding supports the purchase of a collaborative robot welding assistant (also known as a cobot) to perform strenuous maintenance and repair tasks at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder workshop.

MAS Equipment Directors, Matt Worthington and Shannon Edwards said “We are pleased to have received the REDs Grant funding for the purchase of a robot welding assistant to grow the capability of MAS equipment and provide broader benefits to the region.”

“We discovered the Collaborative Robot (cobot) at the Australian Manufacturing Week Expo in Melbourne where we saw it demonstrated and identified that it could change our business. The cobot machine will increase our capacity to service the mining industry locally, minimises overall downtime, while increasing safety and productivity.”

“We are looking forward to the new cobot machine arriving so we can train our staff on the new technology and develop different automated skills within our team. The cobot will provide an exciting opportunity for a new generation of tradesperson in our region.”

GEDC Chairperson, Terrence Winner, said the project will bring broad economic benefits to the region while supporting local businesses and the mining industry.

“This innovative project will enhance advanced manufacturing and introduce automated technology to produce high quality and improved products. It will also create safer and more desirable jobs that require new skill sets, creating more opportunities for workers and making the industry more attractive.”

The RED Grant program is a State Government initiative that invests in local projects to stimulate economic growth and development in regional Western Australia. Three successful Round 6 RED Grant projects will share $555,000 in funding to help local businesses expand and diversify.
