Consultations for the Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program (RDRP) are underway, with GEDC staff travelling across the region to meet with stakeholders. Over the last six weeks, GEDC staff have visited communities and Local Governments from Hopetoun through to Laverton, meeting with almost 100 stakeholders and travelling over 3,700km.

On their travels GEDC staff have been met with rain, hail and shine – perfect weather to highlight the huge variability of our region’s weather patterns.

Delivered in collaboration with DPIRD and the Goldfields Voluntary Regional Organisation of Councils (GVROC), the RDRP project aims to develop practical actions to help achieve drought resilience and preparedness across our region and guide future investment. Building on work undertaken with GVROC’s Regional Climate Alliance, the Plan will have a strong focus on driving water security solutions.

GEDC will continue consultations through this year to capture our region’s water security and resilience priorities. This will help to build a coordinated approach to water security and resilience, to ensure a prosperous future for our communities and region. The final Goldfields-Esperance Drought Resilience Plan will be made available for public comment later in the year.
