Fitzgerald communities are actively working to overcome economic challenges and build a stronger, more resilient future, with assistance from a support package delivered by the Fitzgerald Business Network (FBN) with funding from the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission.
Downgrades in local mining operations throughout 2024 significantly impacted the region, particularly in Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe, resulting in job losses, reduced economic activity and population decline. As a major driver of local economic output and employment, the mining sector had long been central to the area’s prosperity, attracting families to live and work in the region.
To help the communities diversify their economy and employment opportunities, the FBN have delivered a range of initiatives aimed at increasing individual and business capability, capacity and offerings in the Ravensthorpe Shire. Initiatives have included one-on-one and group workshops, upskilling, coaching sessions, community meetings and events including Fitzy Futures and FBN Business Celebration Awards.
Through this package, the FBN have been able to support the communities of Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun to respond proactively to challenges, driving local business development and economic diversification for the region.
