GEDC at ‘What’s Down the Track’

More than 300 people attended the 25th What’s Down the Track Forum and Exhibition in Kalgoorlie-Boulder on 13 November, to hear community and industry updates on emerging opportunities over the coming year.

GEDC CEO Kris Starcevich shared insights into how the GEDC is working with the wider WA Government to deliver priorities across housing, environment, infrastructure and services. His presentation included an update on regional demographics and projections for economic output across key industries.

Kris outlined the Goldfields-Esperance Regional Drought Resilience Plan, a major body of work developed by the GEDC in partnership with community and key stakeholders. The plan provides a clear, evidence-based approach to long-term water security, focusing on practical solutions and building resilient industries, communities and landscapes.

An update was provided on the Kalgoorlie Rail Realignment Project (KRRP), which seeks to explore options to realign the rail outside of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and identify Intermodal Terminal options. The GEDC has led extensive work, funded through $2.5 million in combined contributions from the Federal and State Governments, to develop a business case for the project.

Kris also announced that the Aboriginal Business Leadership Initiative (ABLI) for the Goldfields-Esperance region will return in 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen leadership skills and empower Aboriginal business owners to enhance resilience and innovation.

The GEDC congratulates the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry on a successful event and thanks them for the opportunity to participate in this important forum.
