Young people in Kalgoorlie-Boulder are set to benefit from a new youth precinct that will support health and leisure activities.
The Minister for Goldfields-Esperance, Member for Kalgoorlie, City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor and Youth Councillors officially opened the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Precinct on 29 August.
The redeveloped precinct brings together a refurbished skate park, new pump track, social spaces and a multipurpose court. With lighting, shaded seating areas and landscaped surrounds, it has been designed as a community hub that encourages exercise and activity.
The design was shaped by extensive youth engagement and guided by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council, ensuring the precinct reflects the need of young people in the community – an inclusive space offering a wide range of sport and recreation options.
The project was supported by a $2.1 million State Government election commitment administered through the GEDC, a $2.1 million Lotterywest grant and funding from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Michael said the precinct is an investment in the future of the Goldfields community and it’s youth. He highlighted the strong partnership between the State Government, Lotterywest and the City in delivering the project that will provide a lasting benefit for local families and youth.
